Perfume vs Body Spray—What’s the Difference?

Perfumes and Body Spray both do the same thing which is to make you smell good, but they do it in vastly different ways. Both the perfumes have a difference in their enticing scents. This means that the formulations are different for perfume and body spray and they have different results on the skin. But what makes them different exactly? While it is widely known that perfume has a higher concentration of fragrance oils — resulting in longer- lasting perfume — than body spray. Perfume typicaly contains 5 to 40 percent fragrance oils suspended in alcohol and water mixture. And this is the reason why the scent lasts for a solid eight to ten hours. It costs more than body spray (in part because perfume has more expensive ingredients, and therefore a higher concentration of fragrance per bottle). Body sprays are meant to be a lighter take on fragrance that can linger for a while without being overpowering. Body sprays can rescue the sensitive noses which cannot handle a strong perfume. They’re also ideal for using every day, or when you’re out and about around town.

The other major difference between the two lies in how they are used on skin. Perfume is applied directly onto the skin with a heavier concentration sprayed on pulse points like the inside of your wrists or behind your ears. On the opposite end, body spray could be used all over your body and garments, and it offers a delicate scent that doesn’t stick around for lengthy.

So, perfume and body spray may look alike in that they are both leaves a smell that you smell good, they are very different in real. There’s an entire universe of difference in the quality and concentration of the fragrance oils used to formulate both. A perfume, therefore, usually comes with a much higher price tag for a reason. It is to provide a more intense and lasting scent with an extracted balance of essential oils. Body spray, however, is a good option for when you want a light weight, refreshing scent that does not stay for too long. Ultimately, whether to choose one over the other comes down to personal preference and use case.
